- A toga was like a large blanket draped over body leaving one arm free

Footwear
- Sandals with open toes - proper footwear for indoors
- Shoes encased the foot and covered the toes - appropriate for outdoors, always worn with the toga
- When visiting upper-class, removed shoes at door slipped on sandals that had been carried by slave
